Mala’s October 2019 Cool Reads

October was light on the romance reads, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t bring some heat! I was so very glad to see erotic romance author Katie Porter back in the game with a steamy short, Christmas is Coming, and I tore through Olivia Waite’s hilarious and hellacious (in the best of ways!) demonic duology, Happily Ever Afterlives. The rest of my reading list was pretty filled up with Halloween-appropriate thrills and chills—like Laura K. Curtis’ fantastic modern gothic, A Darker Shade, and Ann Aguirre’s The Third Mrs. Durst, which features brilliant bisexual heroines taking down a terrible man. And I prepared myself for a November Disney trip by reading Zoraida Córdova’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge novel, which brings the new land to life with a mix of adventure and young adult romance!

The Reading Rundown:
The Third Mrs. Durst by Ann Aguirre (suspense/thriller)
A Crash of Fate by Zoraida Córdova (young adult science fiction/fantasy, Star Wars tie-in)
A Darker Shade by Laura K. Curtis (gothic mystery, contemporary romance)
The One For You by Roni Loren (out 12/31, contemporary romance)
Christmas is Coming by Katie Porter (erotic romance, short story)
Aurora Blazing by Jessie Mihalik (sci-fi romance)
False Step by Victoria Helen Stone (suspense/thriller)
The Magnolia Sword: a ballad of Mulan by Sherry Thomas (young adult fantasy)
Happily Ever Afterlives by Olivia Waite (duology, erotic romance, paranormal erotic romance)

Backlist adventures: Not so much an adventure as a comfort reread. I went back to Melina Marchetta’s Jellicoe Road, which gave me an opportunity to cry when I needed it.

Currently reading: Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn and Gilded Cage by KJ Charles.

On the wishlist/TBR:
Resistance Reborn by Rebecca Roanhorse
Realm of Ash by Tasha Suri
