Mala’s August 2019 Hot Reads

Erotic romance and historical romance and a highly anticipated 2020 ARC, oh my! August saw me playing catch-up with authors like Joanna Shupe and Naima Simone, mainlining strong, sexy, debuts like Angelina Lopez’s Lush Money, and rewarding myself for working my butt off with my own writing by reading Kit Rocha’s upcoming Mercenary Librarians series-starter, Deal With the Devil. (It’s so good. OMG.)

I can’t stress enough how valuable it is to read across romance subgenres. Not only does it stave off book fatigue, but you end up finding a lot of unexpected gems and new favorite authors. I’m already excited to read the next titles in Joanna Shupe’s Uptown Girls series and Vanessa North’s American Heavy Metal ‘verse. I think I said on Twitter that I want Shupe’s Mamie to start a crossover girl gang with Sarah MacLean’s Hattie from Brazen and the Beast…and that is STILL TRUE. Meanwhile, Naima Simone has a new Harlequin Desire out this month, Black Tie Billionaire, and my grabby hands are fully activated for that…but I also hope she comes back to the WAGs books at some point and tells us what’s up with Jason and Renee! I just want more.
