the Big Apple of my eye

Winter in New York smells like the cold room in my father’s old laboratory,
like Kolkata petrol poured over ice,
sharp, sour, old world science and life skating on agar

I inhaled and choked this morning as I crossed Park Avenue. Apparently it made me feel poetic.
