So, the nominations for the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy awards came out…and guess where my head’s at? Pondering who should be short-listed for next year! LOL!

I’ll admit that this train of thought came about primarily because the fabulous Stacy Haiduk didn’t score a nomination for her masterful portrayal of Y&R’s Patty and Emily. After going, “Aw, man!” I instantly thought, “Well, she still has next year!” Of course, I do think that, without context, people might have a tough time watching a Patty reel or an Emily reel and figuring out exactly what Haiduk is doing. Her deft handling of each role is really is one of those things that you have to watch over time and see all the facets of. I don’t know that a one episode reel can capture the full range of the lunacy she has to play! Perhaps that’s why she didn’t make the cut this year? I hope she fares better in 2011!

And, seriously, judging by some of the brilliant stuff that we’ve seen across daytime this year so far, the 2011 Emmy race has the potential to be really interesting. I think that ATWT could submit Bob and Kim’s beautifully heartfelt non-iversary/remarriage episode from April 5 as their Outstanding Drama Series reel, and their Writing Team reel, too. And if it didn’t make the ballot, the voters have no soul! Elsewhere in Oakdale, I think Colleen Zenk Pinter (Barbara) has been amazing. Some of her episodes throughout this Henry love affair have been truly moving. And her flair for comedy is just as top notch. I’ve already mentioned on our Weekly in Review podcast how Van Hansis (Luke) should submit his scenes from last week, where Luke confronted Reid after Noah’s surgery. And speaking of confrontations, B&B’s Lesley-Anne Down (Jackie) has some great material stemming from the recent Bridget/Owen reveal scenes, as does Ashley Jones. Ashley and one of this year’s Lead Actress nominees, Sarah Brown (Aggie; ex-Claudia, GH), both have some fantastic stuff from Aggie’s rape arc as well.

That’s not to say that I’m only looking at CBS. ABC’s line-up for next year looks pretty positive, too. Dominic Zamprogna (Dominic), Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) andLexi Ainsworth (Kristina) all stand out to me as having excellent reel possibilities from GH. And the always sublime David Canary had a powerhouse last week as AMC’s Adam that I would love to see honored with a last Lead Actor nomination.

Obviously this is all wishful thinking. I have no insider knowledge, no way of gauging what the Academy deems worthy (hence me not weighing in on this year’s noms, LOL!). I guess we’ll just have to come back next May, take a look at this post, and see if any of my suggestions made the list!
