Caught in a good romance

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, so here’s a list of some of my favorite love stories! (Yes, I count The Doctor and Rose as a love story, albeit not necessarily in the traditional sense.)

Books, Plays, etc.
Little John and Cecily, Outlaws of Sherwood, by Robin McKinley
Vicky and Adam, A Ring of Endless Light, by Madeleine L’Engle
Luke and Roxanne, Honest Illusions, by Nora Roberts
Lucien and Kit, Dancing on the Wind, by Mary Jo Putney
Jules and Robin, Hot Target and Force of Nature, by Suzanne Brockmann

Movies
Rahul and Anjali, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
Westley and Buttercup, The Princess Bride
Leia and Han, The Star Wars trilogy
Joe and Ann, Roman Holiday
Baby and Johnny, Dirty Dancing

TV Shows
Mulder and Scully, The X-Files
Michael and Nikita, La Femme Nikita
The Doctor and Rose, Doctor Who
Simon and Katie, As the World Turns
Natalia and Olivia, Guiding Light

Naturally, this is NOWHERE near a comprehensive list. I have many, many other love stories that hold a special place in my heart.

  1. I like that you mentioned Simon and Katie from ATWT. I am an old-school soap fan and really loved nothing more in my entire life than the Marland years of ATWT (and GL) — to me, those were pure magic.

That having been said, I really enjoyed (in a different way, but almost as much) Hogan Sheffer’s ATWT. During that time Simon and Katie were just so romantic. Their wedding, which I wish I had saved, was one of the sweetest, most romantic sequences I can remember.

    1. Their wedding was beautiful, and they really were incredibly romantic and fun for a while there. I also really enjoyed them this last go-round; I felt like it captured the best of who they used to be but also showed us how they’ve grown up.

  2. I’m trying to come up with some top fives of my own, but I thought I’d issue this challenge:

Top 5 Fictional Couples You’re Still Mad About

For example, for me this would include Laurie and Amy from Little Women. :)

    1. Ooooh. God, yes, I was SO pissed that Laurie and Jo didn’t get together. Laurie and Amy sucked!

That’s an evil challenge. I’ll have to think about it.

      1. Seriously, the Amy and Laurie thing was SO lame. It just felt so forced. If Beth had lived, I could *maybe* have tolerated her with Laurie. But evil Amy who burned Jo’s book? BOOOOOO.

    2. Okay, I couldn’t think of five! In fact, at the moment, I only have one (or technically two, but it involves the same book). I’m still mad that Deck and Sophia didn’t get together in Suzanne Brockmann’s Dark of Night, and got with Tracy and Dave, respectively, instead. I’ll get over it eventually. It’s only been a year. LOL.
